Hopefully no more weeding ever again!
We have a HUGE flower bed in our front yard. Wait, let me rephrase that. We have a HUGE weed bed in our front yard that has been driving me crazy since the first spring we lived here. The flowers it grew were nice for the month or so that they bloomed, but they could barely be seen through the weeds. And there was no getting rid of the horrid things, even though I think I spent every waking moment out there pulling them. They were like grey hairs. I'd pull one and 7 would come in its place the next day.
So after some thought and convincing my husband it would a great Mother's Day present, we got to work.
So this is what it looked like two years ago. Nice, right? It looked like this for about a week. And the rest of the year it was just a sea of green. But at our house green=weeds.
This was two weeks ago. Mike dug everything out. My parents came down and dug the red bushes out. It remains to be seen if they'll survive in their yard.
After a gallon of weed killer, some landscape fabric, and 500 pounds of rubber mulch, this is what we have now. Hopefully it will look a little fuller when the flowers grow up a little bit.
So we only have 7 plants in the front now, but we're thrilled! The flowers are all in pots and Mike ran a sprinkler to each one. So I don't have to weed or water them ever again! Can you feel my excitement?
So now it's on to the backyard and the garden. Hopefully we'll finish with the yard soon and we'll move to the inside of the house next summer where the honey-do list just keeps going.
