Stats, Shots, and a Spray
We went to the doctor on Thursday for Crit's 15 month check-up. I can't believe he's so old already! I took Ally with me too because the appointment was at 9:30-- way too early to play with a friend. I knew my guy was little, but the appointment once again confirmed it.
Height: 30" 15%
Weight: 20 lbs. 15 oz. 10%
Head: 47 cm. 50% (no surprise there)
He got 3 booster shots plus a flu shot. None of the boosters were combined, so he got poked 4 times. Ally cried when he did and asked the nurse, "Why are you hurting my baby brother? He didn't do anything to you!"
They asked if I wanted to get Ally's flu shot done while I was there and of course I said yes. Who wants to take another trip to the doctor? So she started freaking out. The doctor asked if she wanted a shot or a spray up the nose. I could tell she was thinking, "I don't want either, crazy lady." After some prodding, she chose the spray. She even told the nurse, "I will sniff whenever you want me to sniff. Just don't give me a shot." She did great and there weren't any tears.
Crit's been fine and happy since the appointment, but Ally had a runny nose, cough, and small fever yesterday. She didn't even want to go to school because she felt so crummy. I think she'll be better today, though. I didn't hear a cough all night.
Since Ally's still in bed (yes, it's 9:15 in the morning-- maybe I should go check on her), I got the camera out and took a couple of pictures of the baby.

Lara's Song
My oldest sister Lara is ALWAYS busy. When I found the last video, I also saw this one. And I immediately thought of her. Lara's got four girls (Maddyson's 10, Brooklyne's 8, Ashlyne's 4--almost 5, and Jocelyne's 3), is Relief Society counselor, was just released as Primary counselor, and her husband, Aaron is Young Men's president.
So, Lara, here is your song.

Sunday Morning Wake Up Call

Mike woke up on Sunday at 5 a.m. breathing funny and telling me that his chest hurt. Bad. Really bad. I got on the computer and looked up his symptoms: sudden chest/abdomen pain near the sternum. WebMD was spot on: ectopic pregnancy. Great.
I called the neighbor across the street and she came over to stay with my sleeping children until my parents could get here 1/2 an hour later. We live 90 seconds from American Fork Hospital. Good news, right? Unfortunately, we have Blue Cross Insurance and not IHC. So off to Orem we went to Timpanogos Hospital. I started to get really nervous when Mike told me to run two red lights and use the car to push construction barrels out of the way. (I didn't know the Sentra could be so aggressive.)
We got to the ER, and, as usual, had to wait FOREVER for relief. I was afraid they'd have to treat my poor husband for a broken hand after he punched the wall from the pain. After a CAT scan, an ultrasound, and some much-deserved morphine, it was decided that Mike has several gallstones.
After almost 6 hours in the ER, we were sent home with a prescription for painkillers and orders to stay in bed until he felt better. Yesterday was his appointment with the surgeon-- and it's been determined that October 9th will be gallbladder removal day. Hopefully he'll have 3 pain-free weeks until then.
P.S. I used a Mayo Clinic graphic, I hope that's okay, Uncle Jeff.

Preschool! Hooray!
Ally's first day of preschool was last Wednesday (can you hear the chorus of angels?). She loves it and is excited to go everyday. I'm just waiting for the phone call from the teacher when Ally decides she's smart enough to teach the class herself.
Yes, her backpack is blue. She is a little peeved about that, but we got it on clearance last year and I couldn't pass up the great deal.
Miss Stacey, her teacher, had an evaluation before classes started to see what everyone knew and needed to work on. Ally got all of her letters right... until they got to "U." Ally said "Utah." Miss Stacey said, "Yes, Utah starts with this letter. What is the name of the letter?" Ally rolled her eyes (in her typical do-I-have-to- explain-everything-to-you fashion) and said, "It's the letter U. Utah starts with letter U. U-T-A-H spells Utah. I am a Utah fan, you know."
I hope Miss Stacey knows what she's in for this year.

Life in Utah County

So we've been living in Utah County for almost a year now. While most things are just like they were in Salt Lake, there is one thing that's different. Bad different. Utah County is BYU territory. I can understand why; the school is just a few minutes from here. But it really drives me crazy!
Mike and I both need new U of U shirts (it is football season, afterall). The kids didn't have one so I thought I'd get them each one too. So I packed them up and went to Walgreen's. I had seen shirts there before so I was confident we'd find what we needed. We found BYU shirts (4 different designs), sweatshirts, hats, beanies, keychains, kids clothes, mugs, bleacher cushions, and even footballs. We also found the Utah shirts. All 12 of them. They had two designs in only 2 sizes. And that's it.
So we went to Walmart. I knew they had BYU stuff, so I thought of course they'd have Utah shirts too. We found the BYU stuff. The entire section of BYU stuff. Seriously, the BYU stuff took up more space than all 7 aisles of shoes. So we walked through all the blue looking for anything red. Nothing. We tried again. They had no less than 25 racks of BYU shirts, hats, etc. (they even had girls' cheerleader outfits), but no red. At all. Finally I spotted a crimson collar. They had ONE U of U shirt. Yes, one Ute among the sea of blue. I rescued it from the store and brought it home.
So I'm still on the hunt for shirts for the kids. It's not easy to be a Utah fan in Utah County. But we'll survive.
